and technical heritage on paper & paper materials available
with individuals, institutions, libraries, archives & others.
MISSION
OM SAT
NAAM ENTERPRISES is a firm with a mission of
promoting the concept
of Maintenance, Conservation, Preservation, Restoration of the
Cultural and Technical Heritage in form of Paper Material of the
ancient and vibrant country India.
A large part of the Indian History is transferred from
generation to generation which is destroyed over the ages. But
still a large portion remaining is to be Maintained, Conserved,
Preserved, and Restored.

SPECIFICATION OF ARCHIVAL DOCUMENTS
The documents are normally classified in four grades as
per archival specification ( as per the importance for
posterity ) |
Criteria for selecting Grade A and Grade B documents
The Criteria's are listed below

These documents which
should be preserved for
posterity
/ eternity as these are very important

These are documents
to be preserved for a minimum
period of
35 years
|
These are those documents to be preserved for a
minimum period of 10 years
|
These are documents which are required to be
preserved for a minimum period of 2 years
|
These are the periods suggested by the legislation.
But institutions can have their own methodology for
creation of criteria for preserving documents and books of
importance.
The documents which may be included in the archive are of
the following types maps, Drawings, correspondence between
important personalities, land records etc, to name a few.
The classification of the documents to be done at the
respective departmental head, along with a justification
for the classification.
This would be scrutinized by the archival officer prior to
the sending of the documents in the archive.

The time of creation of documents i.e. the year in the
present case. |

The content in the document. |

The size and shape of the document. |

The number of sheets. |
5. |
The material on which the document is made. (Paper in this
Case) but it may be anything like clothe etc. |

The material used for writing. |

The type of form, i.e. bound, loose sheets filed etc. |

The place where the document is generated., the location (The
Departments) |

The place from where it has come to the archieve i.e. the
location from where it is transferred.
(Department sending it to
the achieve.) |

Classification to be done by an authorized person
(like an archivist) with justification and after
proper scrutiny. |

Conservation is a combination of Conservative, Preservative, and
Restorative techniques used to enhance the life expectancy or
message of an element or object.
This concept is used in the designing and developing of the
various methods of and process in conservation.
Causes/Factors of Deterioration
The
various factors that affect the elements/objects can be

The above mentioned strategy is applied in the Preventive
Maintenance Program. The Program is to be run on a cyclic
basis; The number of cycles is decided after the
inspection of the collection. |

All /any of the steps are required to be carried out during the
course of the conservation treatment. The steps involved are
decided in consultation after knowing the end use/purpose for
which the Owner is doing the restoration.
We maintain documentation for all the works, in addition to
providing written evaluations and estimates.

NOTE
The processes mentioned and listed above in the conservation
strategy are applied after inspection of the object and
preparation of a conservation proposal.
Only after the conservation proposal can one make approximate
estimates for the conservation treatment.
The Conservation, Preservation, and Restoration Processes
involve an inherent risk.
The objects post Conservation and Restoration need to be
Maintained and Preventively Conserved.
